This project is expected to benefit Cambodia's economy by enhancing its trade and tourism sectors. According to some sources, the port will:

  • Provide an alternative route for importing and exporting goods, especially agricultural products, to regional and global markets.
  • Reduce the congestion and transportation costs of the existing ports in Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh.
  • Increase the capacity and efficiency of Cambodia's maritime transport system.
  • Increase the availability and diversity of import and export products in the region.
  • Attract more investors and tourists to Kampot province and other coastal destinations in Cambodia.
  • Create more job opportunities and income for the local people.

Economic experts have estimated that the import and export volume of Cambodia's own goods can reach 90 million tons within ten years.
